Designer Diaries: House of Rolison

Founded by skilful duo, Amanda and Taylor, House of Rolison is a development firm that creates soulful, avant-garde living spaces in Los Angeles.

Our BOBBIN Pull was spotted in their Lloydcrest Beverly Hills project, adding a chic, playful touch to wooden kitchen cabinetry. Let’s sit down with Amanda and Taylor to better understand their ever-efficient services, must-splurge items and how they embrace soulful design.

Meet the Rolisons 🤝

"We’re Amanda Leigh and Taylor Hahn, founders and principals of House of Rolison. As a multidisciplinary, female-owned design firm, we strive to create avante-garde living spaces that push the boundaries of innovation and capture the essence of upscale living.

Our properties feature vintage design elements with contemporary pieces that feel curated and sophisticated, while still keeping the soul of the home intact. Amanda is a licensed general contractor, and Taylor has a development background which allows us to bring an array of skills and expertise to each project."

All grounds covered 🏠

"When you have all needed practices under one roof, including property development, interior design and project management, you’re able to move with efficiency, which in turn maximizes design-value and profit return. Being able to oversee each process allows you to maintain quality control at a different level compared to having outside trades that are not communicating and working over one another. Our approach to design and development is streamlined, well-managed, and thoughtfully executed."

Soulful builds 🤍

"Preserving the home’s original character and soul is very important to us – whilst also updating and elevating the space for today’s lifestyle. Most houses we find in Los Angeles have some interesting piece of history living inside of it, whether it has original wood beams or interesting stained glass – we always do our best to not only preserve, but highlight and complement these soulful pieces with various textures and materials. If a house doesn’t have a soul already – we give it one by installing wood beams or adding thoughtful reading nooks and built-ins."

Designed for LA 🏙

"I think Los Angeles influences our work in various ways. We love to add playful texture and entertaining spaces throughout each project. We always design with the future buyer in mindwhether it be someone in the entertainment industry who wants to have a bar built into the dining room, a writer craving an indoor/outdoor feel for inspiration, or a family who needs spaces for kids to enjoy. There is so much history in L.A.’s architectural landscape as well as vastly varying styles which we believe originally influenced us to combine contemporary with warmth and soulful design."

Styling BOBBIN 🖤

"We've actually used BOBBIN in two projects! One was sold before it went to market, but the other was our Lloydcrest project. They added such a playful texture to the kitchen. We wanted to do a flat paint grade cabinet but wanted to make sure the doors had a spirit to them, and this felt like the perfect touch."

Major splurge items 💵

"What’s inside the walls is very important to us, so we never skimp there. Appliances, natural stones, windows, and lighting are generally always our major splurge items."

Icons for inspiration 🕰

"We're always inspired by the following designers Gio Ponti, Zaha Hadid and Eileen Gray."
